Excitement is high on the bridge as we have ventured south of the Polar Circle, 66Ëš 33' 38" S. During the December solstice, the sun never sets, but moves around the horizon in a circle.

This is the radar in the bridge -- note the number of icebergs on the radar!

Almost every iceberg with a flat surface has some form of wildlife. This one has a little frozen pond.

The guys in the blue coats are expedition staff. The number of crew on the bridge is a good indication that something good is coming, as we are about to enter "The Gullet."

As if you had not guessed, sitting in the Captain's chair on the Bridge is is my favorite place on the ship!

We are approaching the opening of the Gullet, a very narrow ice-filled passageway which is oftentimes too frozen to allow entry.

The sights and sounds, (creaks, groans, and pops) are incredible as the Captain guides our ice breaking ship through the narrow channel, "the Gullet." in between Adelaide Island and the Antarctic Continent.

We are getting some snow now, gigantic flakes! Though it still never got much below freezing during the day.

In this photo, it is easy to see the origin of the cliche', "the tip of the iceberg," as typically 90% of the formations are beneath the surface.

My roommate, Lynn, snaps a picture of my second-favorite spot on the boat, napping in the chair in the Observation Lounge. So much to see, yet the gentle rocking makes it impossible to stay awake!

Everything in Antarctica is on a monumental scale, so the two zodiac boats in the foreground offer perspective on the scale of the mountains.
